This module focuses on the foundational concepts of computing and hands-on skills for navigating a computer environment.
Week 1: Introduction to Computers and Hardware
Computer Fundamentals: What is a computer, its characteristics, and its evolution.
Computer Hardware: Understanding the main components—CPU, Motherboard, RAM, ROM, and storage devices (Hard Disk, SSD).
Input/Output Devices: Keyboard, mouse, monitor, printer, scanner, and other peripherals.
Software Concepts: The difference between system software (Operating System) and application software.
Practical: Hands-on identification of hardware components and understanding their functions.
Week 2: Microsoft Windows Operating System
Introduction to Windows: Understanding the desktop, taskbar, start menu, and user interface.
File and Folder Management: Creating, renaming, moving, copying, and deleting files and folders.
Windows Accessories: Using essential tools like Calculator, Paint, Notepad, and WordPad.
System Settings: Navigating the Control Panel to manage system settings, date/time, and user accounts.
Practical: Organizing files and folders, customizing the desktop, and using basic accessories.
Week 3: Microsoft Word (Word Processing)
Basics of Word: Creating, saving, and opening new documents.
Text Formatting: Using fonts, styles, colors, alignment, and formatting tools.
Page Layout: Setting page margins, headers, footers, and page numbers.
Advanced Features: Inserting tables, images, shapes, and using Mail Merge for mass communication.
Practical: Creating a professional resume, a letter, and a multi-page document with formatting.
Week 4: The Internet and Digital Communication
Internet Fundamentals: What is the internet, the World Wide Web (WWW), and web browsers (Chrome, Firefox).
Searching and Browse: Effective search techniques and navigating websites.
Email Management: Creating an email account, sending and receiving emails, attaching files, and understanding email etiquette.
Cyber Security Basics: Understanding computer viruses, malware, and safe Browse practices.
Practical: Setting up an email account, sending an email with a resume attached, and performing specific searches.
This module builds on word processing skills by introducing data analysis and presentation tools, which are crucial for office environments.
Week 5-6: Microsoft Excel (Spreadsheet)
Excel Basics: Introduction to spreadsheets, cells, rows, columns, and workbooks.
Data Entry and Formatting: Entering and formatting different types of data (text, numbers, currency, date).
Formulas and Functions: Using basic arithmetic formulas (SUM, AVERAGE, MAX, MIN) and understanding cell references.
Data Analysis: Creating charts and graphs to visualize data, and sorting and filtering data.
Practical: Creating a budget sheet, a student grade sheet, and a simple sales report with charts.
Week 7: Microsoft PowerPoint (Presentation)
Presentation Fundamentals: Understanding the purpose of presentations, slides, and slide layouts.
Creating a Presentation: Adding and editing text, inserting images, charts, and multimedia clips.
Design and Animation: Applying design themes, slide transitions, and animations.
Practical: Creating a presentation for a fictional product, including a title slide, content slides, and a conclusion.
Week 8: Data Management
Introduction to Databases: Basic concepts of databases and their importance.
Introduction to Microsoft Access: Creating a simple table, entering records, and creating a basic form.
Data Security and Backup: Understanding the importance of backing up data and various methods of doing so.
Practical: Creating a small database for a business, such as a contact list for customers.
The final month provides a glimpse into specialized applications and prepares the student for more advanced roles.
Week 9-10: Introduction to Accounting with TallyPrime
Introduction to Tally: Understanding the basics of computerized accounting and TallyPrime's interface.
Company Creation: Creating and configuring a company in TallyPrime.
Voucher Entry: Recording financial transactions like sales, purchases, payments, and receipts.
Basic Reports: Viewing and understanding basic financial reports like the Trial Balance, Profit & Loss Account, and Balance Sheet.
Practical: Entering a few sample transactions and generating the basic reports.
Week 11-12: Advanced Topics and Project Work
Project Work: Students will complete a comprehensive project that combines skills learned across all modules. This could involve creating a full business plan document in Word, a financial forecast in Excel, and a final presentation in PowerPoint.
Soft Skills and Career Guidance: Sessions on resume building, interview skills, and professional email writing.
Final Certification Exam: A final exam covering all modules, including a practical test to assess hands-on skills.
